GO TO 2040 Community ConversationsSpeak Up logo

Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) wants to hear from you and your community!  GO TO 2040's regional comprehensive planning campaign, scheduled for completion in 2010, would not be complete without active citizen participation.  CMAP seeks to better understand the Regional Mapeveryday experiences of our region's residents by opening up these conversations on a local level.

Community Conversations are being held in conjunction with partner organizations throughout the region. At these gatherings, we are asking  residents like you about your preferences for preserving and enhancing our region's high quality of life.

Community Conversations have been designed to coincide with various phases of the GO TO 2040 Regional Comprehensive Planning Process.

Phase 1 of the planning process created a Regional Vision that describes how the region should look in the year 2040. The vision is built on results from prior plans and extensive input garnered from stakeholders on CMAP Committees and the general public at Community Conversations.

Phase 2 included a series of CMAP-generated Regional Snapshots and numerous workshops with various local experts that resulted in a list of key regional indicators that will help us understand existing conditions.

Phase 3 is evaluating different planning strategies for implementing the regional vision. This current phase engages the public through Community Conversations and a series of interactive strategy papers to help us understand which planning strategies are most effective at meeting regional goals.

Phase 4 will be choosing a preferred future scenario. Several alternative scenarios for the region’s development will be created, each combining a number of planning strategies. CMAP will hold a series of Community Conversations, workshops and other events to gather input from residents on their preferred scenario for the region’s future.

Phase 5 will be choosing major capital projects. The selection process will begin in fall, 2009.

Phase 6 will be the release of the final Plan in 2010.
