GO TO 2040: Metropolitan Chicago's first truly comprehensive regional plan

These videos are from GO TO 2040's "Bold Ideas" contest at Whitney Young High School.  WYHS is one of three schools selected for pilot contests to get kids thinking -- and acting -- creatively about the future.  (The others are Pulaski Middle School and Carpenter Elementary School.)  At WYHS, students submitted dozens of creative entries in categories such as illustrations, videos, original music, and performance.  The students were asked to imagine that the year is 2040.  What does the region look like?  Describe a trip to the supermarket -- or is there a supermarket?  What are schools and houses like?  Where do people work, and how do they get there?  Based on what we learn in these three pilots, we hope to replicate the results elsewhere across the region starting later in 2008.  For more details, please contact us.

Comment on the Brownfields Strategy Paper.  Brownfields are prevalent throughout the region, and although they present challenges, they are usually in desirable locations with great potential for redevelopment. Federal, state, and local governments have recognized this, as well as regional non-profit groups and private investors, situating our region at the forefront in creative brownfield redevelopment strategies and partnerships.  Despite this progress, there is much work to be done to clean-up brownfields region-wide. Please read and comment on the newest GO TO 2040 strategy report, which attempts to illustrate how many potential sites are in the region, in comparison to what’s been cleaned-up thus far. The report attempts to understand the multiple layers of benefits – economic, environment, and social – brownfield redevelopment can offer the region.
