Contest Description: At Waukegan High School, CMAP partnered with the Lake Forest College Virtual Burnham Initiative (VBI) to help students in the Urban Studies course to understand the history of planning in northeastern Illinois. The VBI celebrates the works of the 1909 Plan of Chicago by combining historical research, new technology and community networking to facilitate an open, ongoing discussion of Chicago’s development. The project will transform key elements of the 1909 Plan into 3-D models accessible through the popular Google Earth tool. For the contest, students were asked to imagine Waukegan in 2040 using 1.) Poster; 2.) 3-D model/diorama; 3.) Photo collage; 4.) Video of the future. Final Event includes exhibit at Waukegan Public Library.
